MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Mid-South man was locked up Sunday night, accused of retaliation.

A county document said Zaviaus Miller, 27, made threatening remarks about an officer in the Shelby County Jail and at a sandwich shop.

Nick Noel and Jesse Mormon worked at Lenny’s on Pauline, and told WREG many officers eat at the sandwich shop.

They weren’t there when Miller was accused of confronting officers.

They had not even heard about the incident.

The affidavit said Miller mistook one officer for another officer and threatened his life.

“It’s good he got locked up, so he won’t come in and do it again,” Noel said.

Miller reportedly made the threats last fall, but was not caught until this past weekend.

“That is very scary, because we have officers here all the time, and just for a random man to come up and try to threaten an officer, he had to have a lot of guts,” Mormon said.

This all began before the run-in at Lenny’s.

The affidavit said as Miller was being walked out of jail, he threatened the officer with him. .

That’s when Miller and the officer scuffled, and Miller was put up against the wall to gain control.

Police told WREG, before leaving, Miller turned around and said, “This ain’t over. You are a dead man. I’m looking at a dead man.”

He’s also accused of threatening to put a “hit” out on the officer.

This has been a horrible weekend for law enforcement in the south.

Two Hattiesburg officers were shot and killed in a traffic stop.

“Where is the outrage from those they protect?  Each law enforcement officer understands the risk we take! In memory of the fallen, we stand our duty steadfast in honor of them,” Sheriff Bill Oldham said in a prepared news release.
