HORN LAKE, Miss. — Coming together to find solutions and prevent problems.

A concerned Horn Lake woman and the mayor met Monday to discuss her high water bill.

The meeting comes after WREG brought the problem to the mayor’s attention last week.

“It looks like it was a long term issue. Now it’s going to be a long term solution,” said Laura Causgrove after the meeting.

Causgrove came to WREG last week upset.

Her water bill doubled from $40 to $81 and she said she didn’t have any leaks.

Causgrove along with dozens of other users thought one reason might be their meters weren’t being read.

“All we’re asking is let’s be on top of this,” she said during an interview on Thursday.

After the meeting, Causgrove said she wasn’t getting any money refunded but she’s OK with that.

“We’ve got a really great plan of action for setting up to make sure the meter readers are doing what they’re supposed to be doing and reading the meters,” she explained.

The city said they will teach Causgrove and other residents how to read their meters so they can cross check their bills.

They also planned to double check for possible leaks and show water users how to check.

Causgrove said this case is a good example of the people working proactively with local government.

“I think it really shows the citizens don’t just want to scream and holler at people. They really want to make our city a better place,” she said.

Mayor Allen Latimer agreed and encouraged others to do the same.

“None of the staff can be everywhere all the time. The citizens are our eyes and ears,” he said.
