(Memphis) – The pumps were being primed on the outdoor pool at Ed Rice Community Center. It along with 17 other pools will open Saturday to the herds of kids and their families.
“What we’re looking forward to is a really good, fun summer,” said Toni Holmon-Turner, who works for the City of Memphis Parks Division. “It’s an excellent family activity. We have a lot of families that come out and just lounge out by the pool.”
She says anyone who wants to swim, can and the best part about is that it’s free, but, before kids can make a splash, swimmers must get a Pool I.D. Parents or legal guardians must bring their photo I.D. and the child’s birth certificate.
“That way we know exactly who is in our swimming pool in case there is an incident, we’ll have emergency information,” said Holmon-Turner.
She says the I.D.’s help regulate who’s swimming, in turn, creating a safer environment.
The pools will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and children 12 years and under must have a parent with them in order to enjoy the water.
“You don’t have to get in the swimming pool and swim, but the parent must accompany that child to the swimming pool and have an I.D. Card as well,” said Holmon-Turner.
