MEMPHIS, Tenn. — School is about to be out for the year, leaving tens of thousands of Shelby County children with lots of free time.
Some said that unsupervised freedom also brings the threat of danger.
Saturday morning, a few dozen people gathered outside the Shelby County Schools administration building to pray for the protection of children.
Stevie Moore with Stop the Killing helped get out the word and organize this mass prayer bringing people together.
“I got a message. We got a lot of graduations today going on today. They aren’t in no mobs. We have more children that’s good than we have that’s bad,” said Moore.
Former Shelby County Court Clerk Joe Cooper said those bad crowds were making it hard to keep other children safe.
“We got to get a handle on this. Not in a few months, next year, but right here today,” said Cooper.
Moore has organized several mass prayers outside 201 Poplar, but never one outside the SCS administration building.
Organizers picked that building because it’s connected to children from all different communities.
