MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies said they were investigating an assault that happened over the weekend in the 1400 block of McAllen Cove.
That assault involved an off-duty police officer.
When they arrived, deputies discovered a woman hiding in a closet with facial bruising and swelling.
They also found 28-year-old Brian Cofer passed out drunk in the back yard with a cut on his right eyes and scrapes on his knee.
Both said they didn’t remember what happened.
Investigators however said the day started with drinks at a popular restaurant in Cordova.
The girlfriend told Deputies she drove him home, and that’s when things got out of control.
She also said Cofer had been violent the night before- smashing glass and ripping doors off of the hinges.
Cofer was taken into custody and charged with domestic assault.
He was relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
