OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — No one but law enforcement were allowed inside the meeting room at the Olive Branch Police Department where local agencies met to discuss communication and safety Tuesday afternoon.
After six men were arrested in connection with a drive by shooting at an Olive Branch home last week, the departments knew something needed to be done.
No one was hurt, but two people were home at the time.
“I don’t understand why someone would do that. It doesn’t make any sense,” Olive Branch resident Victor Pretti said.
“Every bad situation brings some good things out of them, and I think that’s what happened in this situation,” Olive Branch Police Chief Don Gammage said of the incident.
That good thing being a meeting about communication between departments.
Sheriff Bill Rasco refused to say where he felt they were lacking in communication or go into detail about the exact plans made in the closed door meeting.
“We’re just going to be in communication with each other from this point on, getting everybody aware and being on the same page,” he said simply.
While some residents, like Pretti, were happy with the protection local departments provide now, he said when it comes to the safety and security of families, more was always better.
“They do a very good job, from what I see, of communicating with each other,” he said of Desoto County departments.
Sheriff Rasco said the agencies will start meeting at least four times a year to discuss communications and any improvements that need to be made.
