MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection to the October shooting of a FedEx employee in the hub parking lot.

On October 30th, Memphis Airport Police responded to a shooting at the FedEx World Hub located in the 2800 block of Democrat Road.

Officers located a male victim inside of the North Tower with multiple gunshot wounds to the arm and chest. The victim said he was shot in the north end of the parking lot and drove to the North Tower after the shooting for help.

WREG was initially told the victim accidentally shot himself.

At the time, the statement FedEx sent out said, “There is no higher priority than the safety and security of our team members, and we are cooperating fully with investigating authorities.”

Video from FedEx shows three male suspects approaching the victim’s vehicle approximately 20 minutes before the shooting and looking through the glass of the vehicle.

All three suspects could be seen entering a small sedan parked near the victim’s vehicle.

Investigators spoke with the victim who told them he did not know the suspects by name but knew them by face because they worked in the same area and by phone numbers because they were in a group chat together.

During the course of the investigation, Tyreese Earnest and two others (who have not yet been arrested) were identified as suspects.

Earnest waived his Miranda Rights and spoke with investigators at Airport Police Headquarters.

There, Earnest allegedly admitted to his involvement in the assault and named the two other men who were present at the scene when it happened. He also admitted that they were all looking through the glass of the victim’s vehicle.

The victim described the appearance of the alleged shooter as a guy having “smaller twists, look like they ain’t been done, about 5’10”, lighter complexion than me.”

The victim showed investigators the phone number he had associated with the alleged shooter and it was registered to a phone recovered on Earnest’s person.

Investigators showed the victim a picture of all three suspects and he identified Earnest as the man who shot him.

According to the police report, the victim told investigators that Earnest said “If you move, imma shoot you,” moments before the shots were fired.

Earnest has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and vandalism.
