JACKSON, Miss. — Spice use in the state of Mississippi has grown exponentially over the past month.
WREG reported as of April 2, 317 were rushed to the hospital after taking it.
Now the Mississippi State Department of Health is saying that number has risen to 1,204.
It’s also believed to be the cause of death for 17 people.
According to the Department of Health, Spice is a “dangerous blend of herbs and artificial stimulants” that is said to be similar to marijuana.
However, it is even more powerful than its counterpart.
The problem with the drug, the department said, is the fact the product contains unregulated and unpredictable chemicals that can cause hyperactivity, seizures, intense hallucinations, coma and even death.
Spice is also known as K2, Mojo, Skunk, Spice Diamond, Moon rocks and Yucatan Fire.
If someone shows signs of spice use, call the Mississippi Poison Control Center at 800-222-1222.
If you need medical help, call 911.
