SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Local police breathed a sigh of relief now that serial rapist and murder suspect James Horn is no longer a threat.
Horn was shot and killed by police in Missouri over the weekend.
He was accused of keeping his girlfriend there locked in a wooden box and was later suspected of shooting and killing her and her teenage son.
Horn also had an ex-wife and son in Southaven.
Police there issued an alert last week to be on the lookout just in case Horn decided to show up.
He kidnapped and raped her some 20 years ago.
Horn was convicted of raping several women over the years, including an ex-girlfriend in Memphis.
Saturday, Horn was found hiding inside a closet in an abandoned home in Johnson County, Missouri.
He was armed, threatened officers, and was ultimately shot and killed.
Police in Southaven said the victim here, who had been in protective custody, had mixed emotions when they told her Horn was dead.
“In some ways she was relieved, but in some ways it was kind of a shock,” Mark Little, with the Southaven Police Department said of the victim. “I guess she had an idea that something like this might ultimately happen.”
WREG also planned on speaking with the victim in Southaven, but police said she was out of town with family and still trying to come to grips with what happened.
