FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. — Fayette County Deputies  have a mystery on their hands after finding a body in a creek bed.

They not only want to find out who he is, but how he died.

The body was found Memorial Day, South of Moscow in a creek bed on Yager Road.

Investigators are hoping someone in the area saw something suspicious and can provide some answers about what happened.

Chris Yager saw the body and would like some answers too.

He lives in Fayette County and happened to be driving down Yager Road before Deputies arrived.

“We come through and saw a body laying off in here. By that time they had called the Sheriff Department for them to come out,” said Yager.

He said the body was half out of the water and visible from a concrete bridge.

“It looked to be a Hispanic male. But he was down to his underwear and laying almost in  the water. Been laying there the way the Sheriff’s Department talked, a couple of days maybe,” said Yager.

Inspector Ray Garcia said because the body was so badly decomposed, it was difficult to determine race, age, cause of death or how the man ended up in the remote part of the county.

“Right now we don’t have any type of missing person cases that would tie back to this or anything that would seem to link back to this right now.  So it’s sort of mystery for us,” said Inspector Garcia.

Yager believes the man was a victim of foul play and probably wasn’t even from Fayette County.

“We figured maybe it was somebody being gotten rid of and brought out here to dispose of them. And figured, ‘well, won’t nobody pick up on him being in that ditch, you know,’ he said.

Inspector Garcia said the body has been sent to the Shelby County Medical Examiner for an autopsy, but that could take some time.

“And then we’ll have some information be able to move forward and determine whether it was foul play, accidental or what my have happened,” he said.

Yager hopes investigators find out who the man is and why he ended up in a usually peaceful part of Fayette County.

“It just don’t happen here. We don’t have that kind of stuff going on out here,” he said.

If you have information that can help investigators, you’re urged to call the Fayette  County Sheriff’s Office at 901-465-3456.
