The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has created some online resources to help consumers whose vehicle may have a defective air bag made by Takata.

The Japanese air bag maker is expanding the number of vehicles to be recalled for defective inflators to 33.4 million.

The defect can cause air bags to explode and has been linked to six deaths worldwide.

How to Check

The NHTSA recommends people enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at this website: https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/.

However, NHTSA said it’s still waiting on automakers to supply a complete list of affected vehicles, meaning consumers should continue to check in as that information is made available.

How To Keep Updated On The Recalls

The NHTSA has set up a website dedicated to the Takata recalls: http://www.safercar.gov/rs/takata/index.html. The NHTSA says the website will contain regular updates, recall lists, and information on the status of the Takata recalls and its investigation.
