OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — AmerisourceBergen, a global pharmaceutical company, announced they were building a $48 million distribution center in Olive Branch.
They said construction for the Fortune 500 company would begin this summer at the Crossroads Distribution Center.
But what really had people excited were the number of jobs the company would be offering: 129.
“They can come from Holly Springs, Memphis, everywhere really,” said Erica Malone.
She said AmerisourceBergen wasn’t just good for Olive Branch, but for the entire Mid-South.
“It’s gonna be great opportunities for us,” she said smiling.
Based out of Pennsylvania, the company will receive more than $1 million in grants from the state of Mississippi to come to Olive Branch.
DeSoto County and Olive Branch were also going to contribute $30,000 each to help with infrastructure costs.
The decision to build the distribution center came after Mississippi passed the “health care zone act” which offered incentives to health care companies to build around hospitals in the state.
A spokesperson with AmerisourceBergen said Olive Branch’s location was also important.
“It really has to do with the fact that our locations are strategically located to best meet the needs of our customers,” they said.
WREG discovered the company currently employs more than 16,000 people and the jobs at the Olive Branch location will offer a range of opportunities.
“It could go all the way from our associates that are on the distribution floor making sure our products are getting to the right customers, to the VP level,” said the spokesperson.
The distribution center should be open in 2017.
