GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — We love to tell you about more jobs coming to the Mid-South.

On Wednesday, WREG told you about 129 jobs coming to Olive Branch for a pharmaceutical distribution center, a sure sign the medical community is growing in the area.

“As people are driven into our medical centers and places where you find our hospitals, it is logical that other doctors offices and other spinoff businesses will grow around those,” said Keith Norman, Vice President of Government Relations at Baptist Hospital.

We’ve also seen this happening in the Germantown Parkway and Wolf River areas in Germantown.

It’s a trend Norman said he has been watching.

“There’s so many things that are attached to the industry that create economic opportunity,” he explained.

If you drive through the area, you would see it’s a hub for specialty doctors centers and clinics, so why are they coming here?

“We have some of the major distributors here, FedEx and others, where pharmaceutical companies will do very well in getting their product in and out,” explained Norman.

Besides distribution and access to major interstates, he said there were also great incentives.

WREG told you about Fortune 500 company, Amerisourcebergen opening a distribution center in Olive Branch.

Part of the reason it decided to locate here was because of Mississippi’s “Health Care Zone Act.”

WREG was told the state provides tax incentives to companies that locate or expand within five miles of a hospital.

They’re now the third pharmaceutical company to choose Olive Branch.

“If we provide that for people it’s a great start,” said Amber Holland from Olive Branch.

She liked the idea of more jobs in the area and she said she already sees the changes.

“It’s growing pretty rapidly,” she said.

It doesn’t look like it’s stopping anytime soon.

Norman spoke of other projects in the works too.

“We’re breaking ground on a behavioral health hospital, we have a rehab hospital that just opened up along the corridor as our pediatric hospital, and our children’s ER just opened up,” he explained.
