COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — A landscaper was soliciting work in a Collierville neighborhood and was hired by a grandmother to trim her trees.

The woman, who didn’t want to be identified said she agreed to pay $175 for the work but when he was finished the man wanted $850.

She insisted she would pay no more than $350, but said she unwillingly lost much more.

“I had gone into my kitchen to write the check and he followed me. I didn’t invite him in. He walked in, ” she told WREG. “When he left I thought ‘let me check my purse.'”

She said all her cash was missing as well as two checks from her checkbook.

She stopped payment, called police, and now everyone said they want to find these lawn care workers.

The workers were from “Frank’s” whose card listed a phone number but no address.

WREG got the owner on the phone.

“My workers don’t steal. We make enough money we where we don’t have to steal,” he said.

The lawn company owner said since the woman stopped payment on the check, he’s out of money and his business is getting a bad name.

The woman said if he shows up again his name is mud.

Workers soliciting door to door is common in the summer months.

Police said you should only use reputable businesses who are licensed and insured.
