When it comes to eating there are good guys, and bad guys.
In fact, health experts have identified what they call the five food felons.
First on the list is saturated fat, found in things like fatty meats, and foods containing palm or coconut oil.
Number 2, Transfats.
They raise bad cholesterol and lower the good kind.
They’re found in some margarines, and in commercially baked goods like cookies and cakes.
The other three food felons all have something in common, simple sugars, added syrups, and any grain that’s not 100% whole grain all increase the risk of diabetes.
That’s because they can cause unhealthy spikes, and then dips, in our blood sugar.
We know how hard it can be, though, to put down your favorite foods.
Dietician Christy Davis stopped by with a list of the most addicting, and how to quit eating them.
A recent study from the University of Michigan asked people assess their food habits using the Yale Food Addiction Scale, where participants score foods between 1 and 7 based on resistibility (1 being the easiest to resist, 7 being the most difficult.)
