MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three children living in a pickup truck were found alone, hot, sweaty, and soiled.

Those children were taken off the streets on Tuesday, but their grandmother was taken to jail.

Nekisha Wilkins was locked up, charged with child abuse after she reportedly left them with a friend  while she went to get something to eat.

The children were in a truck parked at the Real Value Inn on Lamar & New Getwell Road.

A guest at the hotel saw the 1, 2, and 10-year-old alone in the car.

Four hours later, they were still there.

According to a police document News Channel 3 uncovered, the kids were taken inside the hotel, fed, cleaned up and the police were called.

“If anyone wanted to help they should have helped a long time ago it’s been turned in and everything,” said a woman who answered the door.

She  told us the family was living in the car, because their house burned down in a fire and they had no where else to go.

But apparently it’s been going on since last year.

“The fire was in December. The fire was December 15th,” the woman said.

DCS was called in and in the meantime the children are with their grandmother’s sister, LaJoyce Hill.

It’s unclear where the children’s parents are  or who the mystery person was the grandmother claimed was watching them.
