MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police said they’ve caught the man responsible for the brutal attack of a South Memphis woman last year.
Ricky Boyd, 34. was charged with aggravated rape and attempted first degree murder.
The attack happened back on May 4, 2014 on Willie Mitchell Blvd. near Olive Street.
Officers found the 34-year-old victim after neighbors called 911 to report a woman who was screaming for help.
Police said the victim was barely able to talk because her attacker had shoved a stick into her mouth, cutting her tongue and throat.
According to the arrest affidavit, the TBI was able to match samples from the rape kit to Boyd’s DNA.
Two of Boyd’s sisters didn’t want to be identified, but said they were shocked when they heard about the rape last year and even concerned about their own safety.
“That’s horrible you put stick down someone’s throat,” said one of the sisters.
They said DNA doesn’t lie and if Boyd committed the crime he should be behind bars.
“People do things. I could say he didn’t do this, but if they got DNA evidence who is to say they didn’t do it. There is no way I can say he didn’t do it,” said the sister.
Boyd was charged with child rape in 2004, but in 2007 pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated assault.
Court records also showed he pleaded guilty to burglary in 2009.
Boyd’s bond was set at $350,000.
