MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A local veterinarian’s office has helped to save a majestic Bald Eagle found hurt along the Mississippi River.
WREG spoke with Dr. Hannon of the Memphis Veterinary Specialists and was told the bird was found on a sand bar near the Reelfoot Lake.
Dr. Hannon said the animal was rushed into surgery after they found the bird had an injury on its wing and a piece of buckshot near the base of its wing.
They were not sure what caused the initial injury.
The Bald Eagle is said to be in good condition and is even trying to fly.
If it can, the bird will be released back into the wild.
If not, it will be sent to a U.S. Wildlife educational facility.
