HERNANDO, Miss. — A local town received a unique honor when it was named to Family Circle’s Best Towns for Families for 2015.

According to the release, Hernando, Mississippi beat out over 4,500 cities and towns to be named among the Top 10.

To even be considered, the cities had to have a population between 10,000 and 100,000 people.

From there the list was cut in half based on Households with media incomes between $60,000 to $110,000.

Family Circle then looked at those cities that met its family-friendly criteria that included affordable homes, quality of the local schools, access to health care, crime rates, and financial stability.

Round after round, Hernando continued to make the cut until it was finally named to the Top 10.

The following towns also made the list:

  • Weston, Florida
  • West Linn, Oregon
  • Waunakee, Wisconsin
  • Waukee, Iowa
  • Pittsford, New York
  • Matthews, North Carolina
  • Mason, Ohio
  • Issaquah, Washington
  • East Grand Rapids, Michigan
