MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was caught on camera inside Walgreens on Perkins Road and Summer Avenue as a woman  walked inside to pick up her prescription.

Police said as the woman walked out to her car, the man followed, trying to grab her pills.

“I’m a widow and by myself a lot. It does make you nervous,” one shopper said.

Seniors said they have watched a lot of crime in this area, but never did they think they were at risk going to the pharmacy.

“We come down here pretty regular. We’re old and need medicine, so we are down here a lot,” another customer said.

Police said the woman tried to hold on to her pills, a full bottle of a powerful  antianxiety drug.

The man was inside but officers do not know if he specifically went after the woman for her Xanax prescription.

They did say he pushed and even dragged her as he pulled them from her, got in his Mercedes and sped off.

Police said it was identifiable by its large, custom chrome rims.

George Johnson worked at a store right across the street and said crime has been getting worse, and people with addictions are an increasing problem.

He said around-the clock-protection has become a must.

“Why don’t they get security over there to patrol the lot over there?” Johnson asked.

WREG found out security did patrol the lot on a regular basis, but it was unclear where they were at the time of the robbery.
