MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Barbecue isn’t the only food Memphis does well.

Local chocolate maker Phillip Ashley won the 2015 Top Luxury Caramel Gold Award for Best Taste at the International Chocolate Salon by TasteTV Awards for his salted caramel toasted pecan praline “Chelonii.”

This is his second time at the top this year; he won the Gold Award for Most Unique in June for his Savoy St. Agur French Bleu Cheese white chocolate.

“We work hard to design delicious, memorable and artistic chocolate flavor combinations, so the recognition of a Gold Award from the International Chocolate Salon is a wonderful sense of accomplishment,” Ashley said.

Phillip Ashley Chocolates, located in the Cooper Young district, handcrafts fine chocolates with a local flair — flavors include Memphis barbecue and Tennessee whiskey.

The company recently became the official chocolatier of Horseshoe Tunica Casino and Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi.
