MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A local man was arrested after he tried to impersonate a doctor to get his hands on some prescription pills.
According to Memphis Police, Phillip Brucker tried to get the drugs from the Rite-Aid Pharmacy on Quince Road using a Missouri doctor’s DEA number.
Brucker allegedly called in a prescription for 120 Zanax pills.
What he didn’t count on was the pharmacy calling the real doctor to confirm the order.
WREG did some digging and found out Brucker had a history of prescription forgery and theft.
In fact, he pleaded guilty to another theft charge just last week and was given a suspended sentence.
People we spoke to said it’s just part of a larger problem of substance abuse here in the Bluff City.
The Center for Disease Control reported up to 60% of overdose deaths were from prescription drug abuse.
