MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting in Orange Mound on Friday left a child dead, according to Memphis Police.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 700 block of Josephine Avenue just after 1 p.m. Police say a two-year-old boy was taken to Le Bonheur in critical condition.

At this time, police have not said if this was an accidental shooting or if the shots were fired inside a home or outside the neighborhood.

WREG counted dozens of evidence markers, which usually indicate shell casings in the street and outside of the home investigators were at.

“What we are asking our community for, we need your help, we must stop this senseless gun violence in our community we must pull together in our community to protect our children,” said police.

Rittie Marshall, the victim’s aunt, says this is the second family member she’s lost to gun violence at this home. Marshall says crime and gun violence happen often in this community, and something needs to be done about it.

“Like I said, they walk around here with these big guns all the time. Don’t nobody do anything, cops or nobody, to me. I’m afraid to come through here, Imma be honest with you.
she said.

Friday’s shooting happened a day after a teen was killed at an Southeast Memphis park.
