MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It was a brazen crime. Three men used a sledge hammer to smash through thick glass doors and take off with thousands of dollars in merchandise. Now, police said they are offering a cash reward to help get these thieves behind bars. Shattered glass, scattered bags and shoes littered the floor of the Michael Kors store in Saddle Creek. To many it looked like it had been hit by a tornado. Police said three men hammered their way into the store just before 4 a.m. Thursday. They were in and out in less than a minute with more than $12,000 worth of product in tow. “They took off with some purses, some shoes. Things of high value,” Security Guard Walter Battle told WREG. What was even more shocking, the surveillance pictures matched up with video from a smash and grab at Saddle Creek’s Coach store last month. One of the burglars even wore the exact same hooded sweatshirt: a playboy hoodie with ‘Player 1′ on the back. Battle said, in his opinion, these were no amateurs. “You have to plan it, rehearse it, and I simply believe this one was planned and rehearsed,” he said. Lifelong Germantown resident Jackie Harper said the news made her worry about shopping at Saddle Creek. “I’ve never thought about it until now. I never felt nervous before, but I guess when you hear things like that it makes you more nervous,” she told WREG. Police are offering $1,000 to the person who gives them information leading to the burglars’ arrests. Harper said she hopes their caught soon because people like this make the whole area look bad. “It probably makes people not want to come around,” she said. “The more and more crime that happens and that you hear about. It makes people not want to shop or go to those specific areas.” If you recognize any of those men, call Germantown CrimeStoppers at 757-CASH.
