CORDOVA, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Association is collecting money for fallen officer Sean Bolton’s family.
Friday, they stood on Germantown Parkway near Wolfchase Galleria and took donations.
“I retired from MPD two years ago. My father retired and so did my uncle,” said volunteer Loretta Clover. “Once you work for MPD, it never gets out of your blood.”
Officer Bolton made the ultimate sacrifice Saturday.
He was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Parkway Village.
Clover and many others with the MPA stood out in the hot sun, armed with buckets and collected change.
The money will go to Bolton’s family.
Friday afternoon, volunteers called their efforts a huge success.
“It means more than I can put in words,” said Essica Littlejohn with the MPA.
She said countless cars stopped.
Folks gave what they could and even offered condolences.
“The support from the citizens is always overwhelming. They’ve been coming through and dropping money in the bucket. Coins, dollars, whatever they have,” said Littlejohn.
Volunteers will be on Germantown Parkway until dark.
The totals will be posted on the MPA Facebook page.
They are also taking collections at the Mt. Moriah precinct.
