MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County students headed back to class on Monday.

While there could be some problems, SCS told WREG they believed things will go a lot smoother this year.

However, there will be plenty of changes students, parents and teachers will have to adjust to.

Superintendent Dorsey Hopson spoke with WREG about some of the changes that had to do with testing.

SCS, along with other districts across the state, are no longer using TCAP testing.

Instead the districts is set to use the state mandated Common Core Assessment called Tennessee Ready.

“There will be some challenges with that, namely many of our schools do not have the optimal amount of technology,” said Hopson.

Tennessee Ready is a national assessment that details what students grade by grade should know.

The district is still installing computer equipment needed for testing.

Last school, there were plenty of problems with buses and parents said they are hoping that’s not the case this year.
