COLLIERVILLE, Tenn.– More jobs and more fashion has comes to the Mid-South.
Swedish company H&M opened its doors to hundreds of eager shoppers Thursday at Carriage Crossing in Collierville.
The inside of H&M looked and sounded more like a club Thursday afternoon as shoppers browsed for a bargain. For many, the trendy store, known for its modern apparel and competitive price points, brings flair to the Mid-South.
23-year-old Ashlyn Temple and her friends said it’s a place to find work clothes.
“I need some professional clothes, going into a profession and so this makes it accessible for people like us to get clothes,” she said.
The store is now one of 375 H&Ms across the country, bringing 30 jobs to our area.
“This is the third store to open in the state of Tennessee,” H&M representative Patrick Shaner said. “We do have two, but they’re closer to Nashville.”
Teresa Lindsey, who was standing in the line waiting to get inside, said with H&M coming to town, hopefully other stores will follow. She said she hopes they bring more options for people in the area so they don’t have to make the drive to Nashville.
“We need more brands to come, more designer brands, more national brands,” she said.
While people waited to get a peek inside, H&M provided water bottles and umbrellas to those braving the heat. One woman suffered from heat exhaustion, but officials said she was okay.
Ultimately, Temple said although H&M might just be a store, she thinks it could influence some thinking among young professionals.
“Especially with the Choose 901 movement that’s happening here where all the professionals are trying to stay here, and so having these clothes available to us starting out is going to make people want to stay here.”
H&M said a store is slated to open in the Tanger Outlets in Southaven, but a date has not been determined.
