MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Memphis Police were called to Booker T. Washington High School Tuesday afternoon after a brawl broke out involving parents and students. According to the sheriff’s department report and a spokesman, two deputies were asked to sit in on a meeting with the principal and two other families who had been involved in a fight earlier that day. During the course of the meeting, 29-year-old Marsheka Benton became “rude and irate” and was finally asked to leave the school, which she refused. The Deputy was in the process of detaining her when Latrisha Readus, 32, and three juveniles attacked. According to the report, at one point a student even attempted to take the deputy’s service weapon. She was later charged with aggravated assault, while the other suspects were charged with simple assault. The deputy is expected to be okay. Parents outside the school were worried about their children, and angered to hear that parents were at the center of the dispute. “It’s sad when you can’t feel like your kids are safe at school,” said Nakeama Cook. Shelby County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Chip Washington admitted it became an difficult situation for the deputy in a short period of time. “These SRO’s  (School Resource Officers) have a serious and dangerous job it could have turned out worse,” said Washington.
