MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Come winter, it will be easier to jet off to a couple more destinations.
Southwest Airlines announced Wednesday it will add nonstop flights between Memphis and Austin, Texas, on winter weekends. This addition joins new daily nonstop flights to Orlando, Florida, for the winter season starting Dec. 5.
The Dallas-based airline will let you fly to Austin nonstop on Saturdays and Sunday from Dec. 5 through Jan. 3. Between Jan. 9 and March 5, the flight will just be Saturdays.
“These new flights are music to the ears of our customers who want a nonstop route on weekends between these meccas of music and barbecue,” said David Harvey, a senior director at Southwest.
These seasonal flight routes will attempt to better handle higher demand during the holidays.
“We are proud Southwest has chosen Memphis for this new seasonal opportunity,” said Pace Cooper, chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners. “We are confident that these new routes will be embraced by travelers in the Mid-South as they get introduced this winter.”
Orlando and Austin mark the sixth and seventh destinations Southwest offers to and from Memphis. They follow Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Baltimore/Washington and Tampa, Florida.
