MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Some East Memphis neighbors were on high alert Wednesday after security cameras caught prowlers lurking in the neighborhood over the weekend.
“We just hung the camera Friday, so we just wanted to see how it worked,” a homeowner on Oak Grove Road said.
She did not want to be identified in case the prowlers were still on the loose.
She found the camera worked better than she could have imagined.
The video it recorded turned her stomach.
It showed prowlers outside her home around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, two days after the camera went up.
“I grew up in this neighborhood, and I’ve never had to worry about my safety before,” she said.
The homeowner said the prowlers got away with five pairs of rubber boots.
Soon, she learned a neighbor a few blocks away on White Station Road posted prowler pictures online.
The homeowner WREG spoke with believed the images showed one of the same men who targeted her house.
She gave all the pictures to Police.
“Stay vigilant. Watch,” she warned. “You know, know your surroundings and get to know your neighbors,”
WREG contacted police about the case but have not heard back.
UPDATE: The owner of the home targeted on White Station called WREG and confirmed his cameras got pictures one of the prowlers. He said the man stole his kids’ cleats and a broken cooler.
