MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Roderick Proctor, who became the first Memphis return man to take a punt back for a touchdown since 2004, has been named the American Athletic Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

Proctor’s 63-yard punt return highlighted a 28-point first quarter as the Tigers defeated Missouri State in the season opener last Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

The return was a program first since Darron White returned a punt 60 yards early in the first quarter of a game against Tulane on Oct. 16, 2004.

Against Missouri State, Proctor had three punt returns for 84 yards. He also caught three passes for 51 yards to total 135 all-purpose yards in the opener.

Memphis plays the first of two straight on the road Saturday when the Tigers play at Big 12 member Kansas. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas.
