MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for felony possession of a firearm, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

Gregory Shaw, 22, is allegedly part of a Ripley group of the Gangster Disciples, one of the nation’s largest gangs, according to the Department of Justice.

Shaw and other members of the gang robbed five people at gunpoint; Shaw also hit two of them in the head with a pistol, according to information presented at the sentencing hearing. During the incident, the perpetrators allegedly yelled phrases “symbolizing their allegiance” to the gang.

Police arrested Shaw shortly after the crime. They found on his person the pistol and one of the victims’ wallets. The gun had been stolen during a May 2013 residential burglary, according to the Department of Justice.

A November 2014 indictment said Shaw knowingly possessed the pistol while he was a felon.
