MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police have arrested Ian Jeffries, 36, for aggravated assault against Thaddeus Matthews, a local radio host.
Officers responded to Marlowe’s Ribs & Restaurant at 4381 Elvis Presley Boulevard, where Matthews told them an unknown man attacked him after he left the restaurant.
Matthews said he was at the restaurant with a friend when he was approached by a man who gave him a napkin with a name and phone number on it. The man, whom police later identified as Jeffries, told Matthews he needed to talk to him, and Matthews said he would call him.
Matthews told police Jeffries walked away but was waiting outside for him. When Matthews left the building, he said Jeffries again said he wanted to talk to him and that he was a member of the New Black Panther Party.
Jeffries then allegedly punched and kicked Matthews in the face.
Witnesses saw the fight and told police Jeffries left the scene. Matthews refused transportation to the hospital.
Police arrested Jeffries at about 12:30 p.m. Monday. He faces aggravated assault charges and will appear in court Tuesday.
