MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A truck driver, who has had a warrant out for his arrest for seven years, was finally arrested and put behind bars Tuesday.
He was accused of sexual battery.
Investigators believed Terrance Pelton, 59, violated a woman on the job.
Arrest documents showed Pelton drove for trucking company JB Hunt.
In April 2008, police said Pelton came to a railroad location at 4800 Lamar.
He talked to a female employee, who WREG has learned reportedly worked for a contractor at the time.
She told police she checked in his truck and resumed her work.
She said that’s when she felt someone close behind her.
The woman told police Pelton grabbed her inappropriately and would not stop until someone knocked on the door.
WREG asked police why it took seven years to track Pelton down.
Police said once a warrant has been issued, they give it to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office’s Fugitive Division.
“In reviewing the warrants, we located him [Pelton] in Arkansas,” The Sheriff’s Office said. “Once we knew where he was, we placed him on NCIC and coordinated with the local authorities to have him picked up. In many cases, people change locations so it makes things difficult. In this case, it may have taken awhile, but he is now behind bars.”
Records revealed an address for Pelton in Conway, Arkansas.
Conway County confirmed to WREG that law enforcement found Pelton in a traffic stop and then sent him back to Shelby County.
JB Hunt said it had no comment.
