SOUTHAVEN, Miss- The Tanger Outlets hosted a job fair on Wednesday at the Landers Center in Southaven, and thousands of applicants handed out resumes.
WREG was told there were 1,500 positions available prior to the grand opening in November.
Siobhan Riley spoke with the general manager of Tanger Outlets, who expected anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 people to come out to the job fair.
And he wasn’t far off.
The line wrapped around the building at the Landers Center most of the day.
“I got here an hour early, and we were already outside. There were people wrapped around the parking lot,” said job seeker Christopher Camburn.
Randi Hill, who’s a single mother of three, was looking for anything she could find to support her kids.
“Just out here trying to better myself and hopefully help them grow,” she said.
Lexi Harris, the general manager of Tanger Outlets in Southaven, said the goal was to fill the positions Wednesday.
“There’s actually several different positions that are available right now, from a store manager to assistant manager to a stock person to a sales associate, from full time to part time,” she said.
Some job seekers WREG spoke to said they got calls back from employers looking to hire just a few hours after they left the job fair.
Christopher Camburn hoped to be one of the lucky ones.
“I went to the Nike Store first, any job actually, full time or part time, just to bring in some money for the household,” he said.
“I’ve got my fingers crossed so I’m pretty sure I’ll get it,” Hill said.
The outlet mall is set to open November 20 and will house stores such as H&M, Nike, Michael Kors and more.
