MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WREG got to review county records Tuesday that detail the case that made Lorenzo Clark a felon in the first place.
Clark is charged with felon in possession of a handgun in connection with the shooting death of off-duty officer Terence Olridge.
Clark pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment in a 2002 case. He pleaded down from an aggravated assault charge.
On Oct. 7, 2002, a man was crossing the street in the 1100 block of Lamar, near the Community Services Agency. The man told investigators he walked in front of Clark’s car. He said Clark got upset, and the men began to argue.
The man said Clark tried to hit him with his car. The fight turned physical, and Clark pulled out a gun.
That is why Clark was not supposed to have a gun at the time Olridge was shot.
Police said Clark and Olridge are neighbors and exchanged gunfire on Long Shadow Lane on Sunday when Olridge was on his way to work.
Police do not know who started the altercation or who fired first.
Clark has also been arrested for several misdemeanors in the past.
