CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — New information has been released surrounding the death of a 2-year-old in Clarksville at the hands of a Fort Campbell soldier.
According to WSMV, David Wi had taken out a life insurance policy on his stepson, Joseph Bankston, his estranged wife, Alicia Bankston, and the couple’s young daughter before the shooting occurred.
On October 4, Wi’s ex-wife, the two children and her new boyfriend, Brandon Jimenez, were at her mother’s house when a gunman came to the door and opened fire.
Jimenez and Joseph were both shot.
The boyfriend survived, but little Joseph did not.
Wi reportedly mourned the death of the child on social media and also linked to a GoFundMe account that would help pay for the child’s burial.
During the investigation, it was revealed the alleged gunman was Zackery Alexander, another Fort Campbell soldier.
He and Wi knew each other and communicated just before and after the child’s murder.
