FORREST CITY, Ark. — Garbage. It happens!
It’s one of life’s unavoidable obstacles.
But trash-truck troubles in Forrest City, Arkansas have garbage pickups behind schedule.
City officials promised help was on the way, and that’s a good thing because patience is running thin.
Who would have ever thought a garbage truck could look so good.
People in Forrest City are glad to finally see garbage pick-up resume, even if it’s on a limited schedule.
Mayor Larry Bryant said both of the city’s garbage trucks broke down recently.
“It’s very seldom that both of them are down at the same time. And it’s very seldom that when ours are down, the County doesn’t have a free truck that we can borrow from them,” said Mayor Bryant.
The situation left people like Ray Triggs wondering when to put his trash container on the street.
“They supposed to be out here on Thursday. They may not come and pick it up till Friday evening or Monday. Sometime they work on Saturday,” said Triggs.
It’s been so unpredictable that Triggs has been leaving his trash cart in the back yard till he hears the collection truck coming.
“All I got to do is look down the street. And when I see the garbage truck down there I know that they’re coming this way. Then I’ll take mine out to the front,” he said.
He’s glad to know Forrest City will get a brand new garbage truck.
It couldn’t come soon enough for Mary Claiborne, who’s running out of patience with sanitation crews.
“You got trash out in your yard two or three weeks. And they just drive by and see it and don’t pick it up,” she said.
The new trash truck will cost the city $253,000.00.
Forrest City’s Mayor said a new truck will bring service back to normal.
“Hopefully we’ll have a new truck on November 2. And we should be in good shape for another two and a half or three years,” said Mayor Bryant.
Mayor Bryant told us crews have worked double shifts to get trash picked up and he’s asking the public to be patient for just a little bit longer.
