MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is locked up in jail, accused of peeking in a home’s window at kids on Margaret Road.
Police arrested Jerry Roark, 46, on aggravated burglary and observation without consent charges Sunday.
“He’s still my stepson but we don’t get along,” said Royce Carlisle.
Carlisle sometimes let Roark stay at his home on Bowers a few blocks away.
That was where police found Roark Sunday after an 11-year-old girl said she saw him peeping on her and her younger siblings early Sunday morning.
WREG asked Carlisle if he believes that is something Roark’s capable of doing.
“Yes, I do,” he said.
Police said Roark needed to open the door to the closed off porch on Margaret to get a good look. Arrest documents said that he looked through a window into the home from the porch.
He took off when someone inside confronted him.
The victims later spotted him on Carlisle’s porch and called police.
“I don’t trust him. I’m scared of him,” said neighbor Deborah Byrd.
Other people in the Southwest Memphis area told WREG they have also spotted Roark watching around the neighborhood.
“He’s going through psychological problems right now,” said neighbor Willie Smith.
“He’s done so much stuff that nothing he does bothers me,” Carlisle said.
Folks who know Roark said he is no stranger to trouble.
A quick search of county records showed he has been arrested for charges like criminal trespass, theft, and assault before.
In fact, he went to prison from February 2010 until October 2011 for Reckless Aggravated Assault.
“He’s a good man unless he’s drunk. When he gets drunk, he goes crazy,” Carlisle said.
