MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis is known for having some of the hottest musical acts in the world.

Now up-and-coming talent in the city will get a huge helping hand from a legendary musician and Bluff City native.

Songwriter and producer David Porter announced a new initiative to empower local youth in the city to create quality music, regardless of genre.

Porter said the goal is to create a base to grow the Bluff City’s music industry.

“I am so proud to say I’m a Memphian. I am so proud to say music has been good to me and for me and for my family. It’s just an honor to engage with the beautiful spirits of so many Memphians who want to support a viable music industry.”

Porter’s nonprofit MMT, or Memphis Music Town, is spearheading the effort.

The ribbon cutting was held at the state-of-the-art facility on South Main Street that will house the initiative to reinvigorate the music industry in Memphis.
