MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An updated ordinance for the Citizen Law Enforcement Review Board was passed at a Tuesday night meeting.
CLERB members we spoke to said they were very happy the ordinance passed today, bringing an end to months of waiting for more power.
Back in August, the ordinance was up for a vote before the City Council, but the decision was ultimately delayed until November.
Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong asked for it to be delayed out of respect for fallen officer Sean Bolton, but others saw it as a political move.
The vote ended up being after the October election.
CLERB is a citizen review board that oversees complaints made against Memphis police officers in the line of duty.
