JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi voters went to the polls on Tuesday to voice their opinion on Initiative 42, the controversial education funding amendment.
After all of the votes were counted, Initiative 42 failed with 52% against and 48% for, or by a margin of nearly 27,000 votes.
The way the ballot was set up, voters had to first decide if they wanted to change the current amendment.
If they voted yes, they would then be required to vote on who should be in charge of making sure it was carried out.
Again, this vote was close with 59% of voters in favor of 42, and 41% for 42A.
However, this point is moot considering the Initiative failed to pass.
