GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — It’s the very first street in Germantown off Poplar Pike and word spread quickly about a man in a white or silver Ford who appeared to follow a runner, and then when she got close to the car, opened the door and jumped out.

The woman took off running.

“You can only run so fast. I try to have my phone with me at least now. There’s dark areas in the neighborhood at night,” said one runner.

People near Poplar Pike and Riverdale have taken steps to keep safe.

“I was going jogging a lot. It’s changed where I go and what I do,” said another woman.

They’re taking precautions in Germantown and East Memphis where another woman said she saw the same man slowly cruising through the neighborhood.

We quickly found many women running there on Thursday, and they said this is a big deal until they know for sure what the man’s intentions are.

“It’s a little nerve-wracking, but I haven’t had any trouble. I usually walk in the day when it’s light out,” said a runner.

One of the women who saw the car reportedly took a cellphone picture, even got the license plate, and turned that over to police to investigate who the man is and why he was here.

Germantown Police followed up on the report and determined it was a “case of mistaken behavior.” The man stopped his car for something unrelated to the jogger, police said.
