DENVER — Single father James Moss left New York for Denver when a friend offered him a job and a place to stay. Before he even got there, it fell through, and he was left out in the cold.
“It seemed like everything I was trying to do was falling apart,” Moss told KDVR.
In comes writer, motivational speaker and philanthropist Leon Logothetis, who was in Denver on a tour to spread kindness called #GoBeKind.
When Moss and his son Zhi were looking for a place to stay, Logothetis approached them to interview Moss about kindness. Moss shared his story of homelessness, and Logothetis thanked him with $1,000.
The video went viral, and soon more support came pouring in. A viewer created a GoFundMe page to help him, and donations have reached about $50,000 in just over a week.
“Phenomenal. Unbelievable,” Moss said. “It took off. I was like, ‘Are you serious?’”
Moss has already been able to move out of a shelter and hopes to buy a car and a camper. He also needs daycare for his son so he no longer has to bring him to work.
But that random act of kindness doesn’t stop at Moss; he said he wants to pay back some of his good fortune, as well.
“It’s definitely a blessing, man. I’m so thankful.”
