MEMPHIS, Tenn. — At a hearing to determine whether to keep the TBI files surrounding the Darrius Stewart case should be kept sealed or released, the judge asked the parties to submit more legal paperwork before he decides.
Stewart’s family filed a motion Friday, saying they no longer want to delay the release of the documents until they had a chance to go through them.
Instead, Carlos Moore, the family’s attorney, said they want full transparency in the case. He said they believe asking for a delay would take that much longer for the public to get the report.
Moving forward, the only party against the release of the findings is Memphis Police Officer Connor Schilling. His attorney, Art Quinn, argued that there could possibly be a federal indictment against him. The D.A. told the judge she does not see that happening.
The judge said he wants both sides to file briefs before the close of business Wednesday. Weirich and Schilling’s attorney need to include if they think Schilling should be allowed to intervene.
