MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County Schools teacher is out of the classroom after being arrested for pimping employees of an illegal strip club.

Walter McCrimmon was a social studies teacher at Raleigh-Egypt High School and worked for the district since 2003, according to SCS.

He was suspended without pay following the arrest but later resigned, an SCS spokeswoman said.

Police said their investigation into McCrimmon started in July at Walt’s Place located at 3572 Commerce Circle.

Over a four-month period, an undercover officer visited the club several times.

Police said officers made eight prostitution deals, with some of the deals negotiated with McCrimmon, who is the owner.

Police said he set prices for customers to have sex with the employees.

Detectives also bought drinks made with untaxed liquor because the business had no liquor license.

The club has been closed as a nuisance.

Being that McCrimmon was a teacher, many people in the Raleigh area wanted to know if he involved his students. MPD confirmed no juveniles were involved with “Walt’s Place.” It said it investigated that concern over the four-month-investigation.

“That is a relief that the kids didn’t do it,” said Raleigh Egypt High School graduate Ashley Downs.

McCrimmon is charged with eight counts of promoting prostitution, storage of liquor for sale, unlawful sale of alcoholic beverages and one count of money laundering.

McCrimmon’s LinkedIn profile reveals he has a masters degree.

He is out on a $50,000 bond and will appear back in court Tuesday.

The school principal alerted parents to the situation Sunday via email.
