MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Airport canines are busy this week, sniffing out any possible danger lurking at Memphis International Airport.
This comes after the U.S. State Department issued alerts to holiday travelers in light of terror attacks overseas.
“It’s terrifying; everyone should be a little frightened. We don’t know what could happen next,” 16 year-old Alysa Beasley said.
Beasley is traveling out of the country to Jamaica by herself. But despite the alerts, the teen said the show must go on. She and her mom spent a lot of time praying before the trip.
“To be safe and everyone else to be safe, definitely don’t want more attacks like that,” Beasley said.
Airport officials said this year more people are traveling than in years past. Add in the heightened security, and they suggest you arrive two hours before takeoff.
Mom Alexis Faber arrived early with her little ones in tow.
“Things go on all the time, we got to live our lives,” Faber said.
She said she’s thankful to see more airport police patrols than usual.
So is grandmother Berneice Baskin, who spent the morning waiting on her granddaughters to arrive from Dallas.
“I trust God and don’t have any fears,” Baskin said. “I know there are things going on, and that’s real, but at this point, I’m just glad they are able to get here.”
They are not focused on terrorism threats; they are focused on Thanksgiving. And while some may wish others harm, the Baskin family is thankful for long-awaited hugs.
