MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In between classes, it wasn’t just homework that was keeping University of Memphis students stuck to their computers on Monday.

Instead it was the deals to be had as a part of Cyber Monday shopping.

“I have heard that all websites are at least 15% off and some are more. So it’s definitely a lot of good deals out there,” says Shea Wingate, a U of M Graduate Student.

Reports suggest Cyber Monday may surpass Black Friday as the busiest shopping day, and we can understand why.

It’s easy.

It’s quick, and with internet access you can shop from anywhere.

Randy Hutchinson, with the Better Business Bureau said that’s all the more reason to be on guard.

“It is Christmas. People are gonna be shopping and in some cases people are gonna be in a hurry looking for great deals. Be wary if it is just too good to be true,” he suggested.

The BBB said when shopping on-line think safety, starting with what you are using to browse the internet.

“Be sure you have all the up to date anti-virus protection and security patents and whatever so nobody is able to hack into you and get confidential information from you,” said Hutchinson.

He also said check out on-line companies before buying.

“Put the name of the company and the word ‘complaints’ into Google and see if other people have had problems with them,” he said.

When you get ready to check out, make sure to look for one thing.

“The http that is in the web address turns to https. That means it’s secure,” said Hutchinson.

Other tips to consider before you make an on-line purchase: know the store’s return policy and factor shipping and handling into the cost.
