GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Power problems have become pretty frequent in many parts of Germantown especially the eastern part of the city.

“It was out from 11 at night until 7:15 the next morning,” said Lauren Kelly of Germantown.

What’s bizarre is it’s  in the newer section of Germantown which has very few overhead power lines.

Almost everything is buried and the lights still go out.

On one street customers said they have had more than a dozen outages in the past two years.

“We are big Costco shoppers. We have a deep freeze with meats and things that we worry will go bad,” said Kelly.

Germantown Mayor Mike Palazzolo said he received complaints this week about several outages during clear weather.

MLGW told him and confirmed to WREG the problem lies underground.

The buried power lines in eastern Germantown are failing.

MLGW told us repairing underground cables is difficult and takes lots of manpower.

They released the following statement:

“President Jerry R. Collins Jr. will be meeting with engineers and a construction manager next week in order to expedite design and construction so that our work to replace the underground cable can proceed as soon as possible.”

” We used to have the best power utility in the company,” said Phil Lewis.

“Now I don’t know what the problem with MLGW is they have problems up there.”

Germantown’s mayor promised to stay on top of MLGW to make sure fixing the failing cables stays a priority.

” Because it’s not weather related. You never know when it’s going to happen, and to know something’s being done is a big help,” said Kelly
