FORREST COUNTY, Miss. — A man charged with murdering two police officers in Hattiesburg died after being found unresponsive in jail Friday.

Forrest County investigators told WHLT’s Candace S. Coleman that the man, Marvin Banks, was found unresponsive in his cell. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Investigators are looking into what caused his death, but authorities said there were no signs of foul play.

An initial autopsy showed an enlarged heart to be a likely factor in Banks’ death, but the official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Banks, along with Joanie Calloway, was charged in May with two counts of capital murder for the deaths of Officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate.

He was also charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and grand theft for fleeing in the police cruiser after the shooting.
